Penn Township man charged with assaulting brother, resisting arrest after standoff

A Penn Township man is charged with assaulting and threatening his brother and refusing to surrender to police for two hours, according to court documents. Robert R. Milburn Jr., 60, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of harassment, resisting arrest, simple assault and making terroristic threats. The reported incident happened about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 500 block of Sunset Drive that Milburn shares with his younger brother, Larry, 58, according to court documents. Sgt. Joseph Lewis said police were dispatched to the home for a report that Larry Milburn fled the residence after Robert threw a hot microwave dinner on him, went into a bedroom to retrieve a firearm and was threatening to shoot him.

Hempfield woman pleads guilty in coffee, urine tossing cases

A Hempfield woman has pleaded guilty in connection with three incidents last year in which investigators said she assaulted a police officer, a deputy sheriff and a prison guard. Sonya Rae Connors, 53, was sentenced by Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio to serve up to 23 months in jail and two years on probation. She was given credit for the nine months she served behind bars since her arrest and was paroled. According to court records, Connors had been free on bail since since September.

Lower Burrell man faces assault, escape charges after hospital brawl

A Lower Burrell man arrested last month on assault charges faces more charges this week stemming from a brawl at Allegheny Valley Hospital. Matthew D. Hoessler, 23, was charged with aggravated assault and attempted escape after police said he fought with Westmoreland County sheriff’s deputies and hospital police when he was taken to the emergency room of the Harrison hospital Feb. 23. According to court documents, Hoessler had been arrested by Vandergrift police that day on charges that he assaulted two people in the borough. Because he had a pre-existing injury, Westmoreland County Prison officials required he be seen by a doctor before being brought to the jail.

Police accuse man ordered to leave Greensburg bar of stealing car, crashing at end of chase

A man told to leave a downtown Greensburg bar early Saturday because he appeared intoxicated was arrested later on charges of stealing another customer’s car, leading police on a 4-mile pursuit and attempting to fight officers, according to court documents. Darrell D. Carr, 29, of Pitcairn was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing and eluding police, making terroristic threats, possession of marijuana, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and theft of a motor vehicle filed by city police. Carr also was charged with numerous traffic violations, including driving on a DUI suspended license and failing to obey traffic control devices.
