A woman died from injuries suffered in a fire on Virginia Avenue in Jersey City early Thursday morning, authorities said.
The fire at 18 Virginia Ave., part of a large, three-and-a-half story brick structure, was reported just before 1 a.m.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said its Homicide Unit is investigating the one-alarm fire, in which a woman was found critically injured and later succumbed from her injuries.

The Regional Medial Examiner ruled the death of Benjamin Stone, 40, a homicide and determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt force trauma to the torso, Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
On Tuesday, April 27th, just after 1:30 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded on a welfare check to an apartment at 44 Storms Ave., between Howard Place and Monticello Avenue.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case and no arrests have been made at this time.
