A Union City police officer is suspended without pay after being arrested and charged with illegally accessing a criminal justice database, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
Weslley Hernandez, 29, of Clifton was charged with computer theft, a second degree crime, when he turned himself into authorities just after 11 a.m. Friday.
Suarez said Hernandez accessed the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Database on various dates in June 2020 and “obtained information for purposes other than those authorized by his employment as a police officer.”

Weslley Hernandez, 29, of Clifton, was arrested just after 11 a.m. this morning at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City after he turned himself in with his
attorney, Suarez said in a statement.
Hernandez has been charged with computer theft, a second-degree crime.
The investigation discovered that on several dates in June 2020, Hernandez accessed the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Database and obtained information for purposes other than those authorized by his employment as a police officer.

Heavenley Cherry and Izmae Tinker-Trent, both 19, and Jahquell Carter, 25, all of Jersey City, were indicted by a grand jury Feb. 11 in the shooting death of 17-year-old Tyeah Garner on July 6 last year, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced Thursday. They were initially charged in late July.
The indictment charges Cherry with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and unlawful possession of a weapon. Tinker-Trent is charged in the indictment with hindering a murder investigation.

Law enforcement recovered $700,000 worth of drugs, according to the U.S. Attorney s Office.
Three New York men have been charged in connection with a conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine in Hudson County from locations in Manhattan.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Juan Carlos Merced Moreno, aka “Samuel,” 43; Antonio Hidalgo, aka “Cacona,” 43; and Jose Miguel Abreu, aka “Pelu,” 26, all from Manhattan, are charged by complaint with one count of conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of suspected fentanyl, 500 grams or more of suspected methamphetamine, and 500 grams or more of suspected cocaine.
