Two Hamilton Heights students die in crash on the way to prom

Updated: 9:47 PM EDT May 1, 2021 ARCADIA, Ind. Hamilton Heights School Corporation was scheduled to have prom on Saturday night. But just before 7 p.m. on Saturday the school canceled prom after receiving news of two students who died and two others who were injured in a crash on their way to prom.  Superintendent Derek Arrowood wrote a message to families sharing the tragic news.  We are reaching out to share there has been an accident involving Hamilton Heights students on their way to prom, Arrowood said. It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we have been informed that two students involved in this accident have died from their injuries.

Two high school students headed to Hamilton Heights prom killed in car crash Arika Herron, Indianapolis Star Replay Video Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly spelled Lendon Byram s name. Two high school students were on their way to the Hamilton Heights prom Saturday evening when they were killed in a vehicle wreck.   The Hamilton County Sheriff s Office identified the students as Lendon Byram and Kalen Hart. Byram was driving and Hart was the front-seat passenger.  Two other high school-aged passengers in the backseat of the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff s Office.

Man Dies In Boating Incident On Chickamauga Lake Saturday, May 1, 2021 A 62-year-old Sale Creek man kayaking alone was spotted by a family member floating unconscious in over 10 feet of water on Chickamauga Lake. It was near the Patterson Road access area of Sale Creek. TWRA officers, Sale Creek Fire Department and Hamilton County Sheriff s Office responded to the call around 3 p.m. Saturday. Water temperature in this area is around 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office. The incident remains under investigation.  The name will be released when next of kin are notified.
