Thursday afternoon, Harris County officials provided an update on the county’s environmental monitoring and protection efforts since the 2019 ITC Deer Park fire.
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia, as well as other county officials and representatives from a research nonprofit and private industry spoke at the briefing.

The fire at the Intercontinental Terminals Company Deer Park petrochemical facility began on Sunday, March 17, 2019 and blazed on for days, with officials reporting it was “under control” on March 23, 2019.

HOUSTON - A resident and two staff members were taken to the hospital after a fire at an assisted living facility in west Harris County, officials say.
According to the Cy-Fair Fire Department, crews responded to a 1-alarm fire in the 8500 block of Copperbrook Dr. at the Autumn Grove Cottage Assisted Living facility on Tuesday morning.
Officials say smoke was coming from the building when they arrived, and there were reports of people trapped.
Eight residents and two staff members were reported inside at the time of the fire, according to the fire department, and one woman was rescued by firefighters.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Two Harris County deputies and one firefighter were hospitalized after responding to an early-morning fire at an apartment complex in North Harris County Saturday, officials said.
Harris County deputies and fire crews were dispatched to the burning apartment building, located in the 5100 block of Farm to Market 1960 Road, around 1:30 a.m. On arrival, deputies rushed to evacuate the building while firefighters worked to knock down the blaze.
At some point, both deputies were transported to the hospital where they received treatment for smoke inhalation. Both deputies have since been released from the hospital and are in good spirits, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Two deputies were hospitalized after working to evacuate residents from a fast moving apartment fire early Sunday in north Harris County.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. at the Providence Champions apartments on FM-1960 near Champions Forest Drive.
It began when a car caught fire, and the flames spread to the apartment units, according to authorities on the scene.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff s Office were assisting in alerting residents to the fire and getting them to safety when two of them were overcome with smoke, authorities said. They were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. A firefighter on the scene also injured his knee during the response. Authorities on the scene told ABC13 that all were alert and were expected to make a full recovery.
