Crotwell, originally from north of London, and who moved to Sydney, Australia in 2008, felt like she’d exhausted her dating options. She’d done online dating, only to find that it had become about as fun as being staked naked on an anthill: an endless round of coffees and quick after-work drinks where, “there’s no chemistry” and you “treat it like work, going on multiple meetings”. On top of all that, she says, there was also a harsh reality of gay dating: simply less people to choose from. “You just come across the same people across the years, it’s a very small pool of people to date,” says Crotwell.
