The Daily Jeffersonian Editors Note: This is the first in a series of stories highlighting the history behind many of the buildings in downtown Cambridge. This article focuses on buildings in the 600 block of Wheeling Avenue. Many of the buildings in downtown Cambridge are the original structures built in the early days of the city and have historical significance, either for the role they played in the development of Cambridge or for the notable people who visited them or events held within. The Berwick The former Berwick Hotel constructed at 615 Wheeling Ave. in 1887 is now known as the Berwick Building and houses The Cambridge Area Chamber of Commerce and the United Way offices, as well as senior apartments.
