LAWRENCE SMITH/Stuff Tory Kingi won the Taite Music Prize 2020, and is nominated again for 2021. The Taite Music Prize recognises artistic success for one New Zealand album released in the past year. The award pays homage to Dylan Taite, a trailblazing music journalist who died in 2003. Stuff music critic Alex Behan said the list of finalists showed it had been a “strong year for women” in music. He said one of the women artists would most likely win the album, with Reb Fountain or Nadia Reid out in front. If any of the men won, he said it would probably be Troy Kingi – but given he won last year it seemed unlikely.
