by Matthew Choi (Politico’s Morning Energy) The EPA on Monday said it will reassess the Trump-era rule preventing California from setting stricter car pollution standards than the federal government after a similar move last week by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If California is free to set its own tailpipe emissions limits, that would have national implications, particularly for the 14 states plus D.C. that also adopted the state’s stricter rules. EPA will hold a virtual public meeting on the issue June 2 with comments due July 6. Environmental groups heralded the move as an important step in cutting vehicle pollution.
