After violence in D.C., Republicans discuss how to move forward GOP reaction to Capitol reaction and last updated 2021-01-07 19:46:59-05 KANSAS CITY, Mo. â After the violence at the U.S. Capitol died down, lawmakers continued their work, certifying Joe Biden's presidential win. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Missouri, and Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kansas, still objected to the certification after rioters forced their way into the Capitol building, staying true to their intentions leading into the day. Both senators spoke out against the violence. "Violence is not how you achieve change," Hawley said. "Violence is not how you achieve something better. Our constitution was built and put into place so that there would be, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, no appeal from ballots to bullets, which is what we saw unfortunately attempted tonight."
