Airlines in United States under attack for cashing in on cancelations 05 Jun 2021, 03:18 GMT+10 WASHINGTON D.C.: Adding to the mounting criticism facing airlines over their handling of redemptions for flights canceled during the pandemic, seven major U.S. airlines came under fire from two senators earlier this week, who vowed to take legislative or regulatory action against them. Democratic Senators Edward Markey and Richard Blumenthal accused the airlines' trade group of "refusing to offer any commitment to expand cash refund policies or eliminate expiration dates for pandemic-related flight credits." The lawmakers said the airlines "continue to sit on more than $10 billion in unused flight credits and are still refusing to return consumers' hard-earned money, more than a year after the pandemic began."
