She started her studies at Rural Studio, a socially driven, off-campus design and build initiative in the School of Architecture at Auburn University in Alabama, which she says remains a huge source of inspiration for her practice approach, particularly the notion that the profession should be focused on creating ‘shelter for the soul’. She says: ‘Having self-built a number of our early projects, we take great pleasure in the process of transforming design ideas into built form.’
