Movement to avoid more violent protests but in minneapolis just like last night people are defying those orders and continuing to make their voices heard on the streets in los angeles a Police Cruiser was set on fire other demonstrations of unhealed in miami and chicago. Scuffles a broken up between police and protesters in new york where demonstrations are continuing into the night earlier a police car was set on fire the day before thousands of people protested outside the citys Supreme Court near the Brooklyn Bridge and outside a sports arena. President trump meanwhile has offered to send the National Military to minneapolis and pledged to put an end to what he called mob violence but his comments havent stopped people from gathering in large numbers that his front door this was the scene in front of the white house an hour ago where police set up barricades in an attempt to stop protesters from advancing meanwhile in minnesota where george floyd died the governor says hes fully mobilizing the National Guard for the 1st time in the States History but warns he still doesnt have enough troops to him waltz has also called on people to do their part to stop the violence. I can tell you that youll see the best of minnesotans rising youll see opportunities for people to show the best of who we are and we simply asked for cooperation to help us reestablish order on our streets to make it clear that the force that has been put on the ground is there for the long haul. That this is not a place where violence in his anyway going to step on or dilute the message that weve got work to do around racial injustices weve got work to do to bring justice for george lodge there was john hendren is on the scene in minneapolis where a curfew has just come into effect john so 2 were looking at these pictures now with you we know the curfews come into effect but people obviously defying that. Were on there and forgive me we are running away from tear gas which im breathing as we speak these are the rubber coated pellets that police have been firing theyve taken over the area where the protesters are using as their base. And what were doing now is frankly running away while the police move in on us. The protesters had completely taken over this site that was occupied 1 by police now what theyre doing is building. Makeshift barricades right there trying to stop the police but there are a 1000 more National Guard troops here than we were here 24 hours ago that makes 700. 00 in total in addition to thousands of state police and others and this is become a battle for turf policing and hit a number of people with these some of them have been hurt fairly badly and what theyre trying to do is to end several days of siege charges against one of those Police Officers a murder charge against him daryn show is his name that didnt satisfy the crowd they want charges against all 4 of them so this is the result and john weve been talking to you all night about this palpable sense of anger across many cities in the Africanamerican Community yet another black man being killed by white policeman what are people telling you whats the underlying feeding there on the streets. Well there is a theme of impatience in anger because it keeps happening it happened to Michael Brown in ferguson missouri it happened to Trayvon Martin in florida it happens in city after city i cant tell you how many of these events i have covered where police have killed an unarmed black man and once again here in this case there is some satisfaction that one officer has been charged but they want all 4 officers to be charged and more is more than that aaron but they really want is for these incidents to stop and thats why the group black white lives matter formed and thats why were still are seeing these kinds of protests all across the country today theres just a sense that people are fed up. And you are talking about the governor calling for the National Guard to be mobilized fully for the 1st time in the States History so what sort of Police Presence and Security Force presence are you seeing on the streets and is that likely to make the situation even worse. I dont know if you can see them because weve weve had obviously had to go away theyve been firing at us but. There are hundreds of police that presence is very strong they came in in force they blew smoke they headed there their entry and then they began firing tear gas and these rubber pellets. So the Police Presence here is far stronger than i saw it a day before and that maybe because theyve got a 1000 more National Guard troops to help them want to join hands on the line for us in minneapolis john stay safe thanks for talking to us well come back to that later in the program lets go to dave. Whos now live for us in new york it seems the situation across the city is very different from place to place tell us whats been happening. Yeah its really. Not but if you. You know. A matter where you are and this is. What youre getting. Youre getting routes of people coming out of the fire department. Im sorry about that just give us one second obviously as you can tell its pretty chaotic out here right now. So there will. As you can see its pretty good and chaotic out here right now i dont need to explain that there are groups of protesters there are protesters that are sort of playing a cat and mouse game the police will be here for one minute i were in union square theres protesters that are down on this side of the story and. One time youll see police in an area here. And blocking off some streets and then the police are going to move and then the protesters will move to another area night has fallen here in new york city so its getting a little. Unpredictable i guess is the right word to say but just a few minutes ago this was a pretty tense standoff with protesters and some police and now it is moving into different areas if you look down this street you see more sirens over there this is how its been for about the last hour. Theres just the police are moving around to where ever they need to be or to where ever an incident is happening at that very moment in brooklyn weve heard of some clashes with police and some protesters weve also heard some other clashes in other parts of the city but right now the bottom line is new york city is really a city in the middle of fog right now because its really hard to make out exactly whats happening except exit where youre standing at that very moment quite frankly. We know that new york city is one of the coronavirus. So what sort of official reaction have we seen from the governor from the men whove been by public during the pandemic. The mayor and the governor of new york and now we are yeah we are thank you. The mayor and the governor of new york are saying that they support the protesters they support the protest movement that they want justice as well but the bottom line is these are angry streets right now. Theres appear to be some crashes just down the street were hearing some flash bangs this is. Going to after 10 pm here in new york it appears it appears that we have quite a long night ahead of us here i dont mind as most of the people that i speak to out on the streets young people and they say quite frankly they dont want to hear from politicians right now they want to get their anger out yet again just a final point on the new yorkers of course remember the case of donna back in 2014 a black man unarmed black man also killed by a white man. Yeah thats right 2014 eric gardner unarmed black man who was it was tackled by some police he was taken to the ground and he was he was saying i cant brief and theres cell phone video of that that led to the black lives Matter Movement that was started right here in new york so a lot of people here a lot of people here. Know that they remember that and Police Violence quite frankly is very raw here in new york city you can hear bangs behind me i dont quite know what that is. Clearly this is a situation now in new york where things are probably not turning for the better or i gave it as on the life for us there in new york thank you lets bring in Rosa Clemente from albany new york shes a Community Organizer and black lives but protest rosa were watching dramatic scenes austrians here of the rest of the protests right across new york we understand you a tear gassed. At a protest tell us what happens you. You know and 1st can i please correct your correspondent blacklist founder did not start at the air arnor blacklist matters started after the acquittal of George Zimmerman it was founded by 3 black women and it was found those in california i have to say that because you know we have to be correct in this history im in albany new york its one i have thought was away from new york city. And i was just at a protests here albany is a very poor city a very. Policed city a very Violent Police force unfortunately in Even International news and news in the United States of america everybody sees new york city as the epicenter but upstate new york city has some of the most Violent Police and some of the most violent killings and harassment decades so i was there covering as a as an independent journalist and there was maybe a crowd of 75 and the 1st thing the police did was not only come on horses surround us begin to go flash grenades they tear gas and pepper sprayed us right now and i know in albany new york there might be some fires started and a lot of young angry black and brown people and theyre not just angry about this theyre angry about everything that has been happening before george floyd but i think your audience would also understand that in a Global Pandemic where were the epicenter capitalism is also being laid bare ended you know were talking about people address and redress and in new york state Governor Cuomo and the mayor of new york bill de blasio have been the worst when it comes to ever ever inciting a Police Officer rosa both of them always side with the police let me let me just stick with this issue of the feelings within the black community because clearly people are streaming on. Again you know another black man has been killed by a white policeman how would you describe the underlying palpable feeding the in albany. And also in many other u. S. Cities where protests are taking place. Because its not george floyd every 28 hours in the United States of america an African American native person south asian person or brown person latino are killed by the police every 28 hours george florida unfortunately was something we had to watch for 9 minutes but we could talk about the ana taylor. Who was working during the Global Pandemic where police entered her house while her and her boyfriend were sleep they thought they were being run out and her body was so riddled with bullets and this is last month in louisville kentucky that they had a hard time even putting her back together i can name you. Tony make day a black tranced man that was just killed 2 days ago by the police in mentions and i could spend 5 hours a week you all and i could not even answer or we wouldnt even go through the list. Multiple Police Killings rosa let me get a final thought from you we know that one of the Police Officers involved in this george curry paste been arrested but of course that hasnt stopped the violence so what is the end game here for the protest as them can protest really bring about change because as youve been showing us these Police Killings are still happening. They have to bring about change now this this is good not only a Tipping Point its an explosion and on within against this Global Pandemic until all those cops are arrested until they go to trial until they get jail time and then serve that jail time i think were going to be seeing this a lot more for many many weeks here in the United States rosa coming time for a good to get your thoughts here on aljazeera thank you very much indeed for talking to us thank you art us turn our attention now to chicago where the mayor addressed the media about how poorly President Trumps one of the protests rocking the country. His goal is to polarize to destabilize local government inflames racist urges and we can absolutely not let him prevail and i will code what i really want to say to donald trump its 2 words it begins with f. And it ends with you. I will not remain silent while this man cynically tries to turn this incredibly painful moment into one for his own political gain all right natasha the name joins us live now in chicago natasha says some pretty colorful choice words there from the governor about trump but what motive she have to say. Actually adair and i want to bring you up to speed on some rapidly moving developments we are now under curfew in chicago until further notice were 15 minutes into a curfew everyone received text alerts on their phone police we were at a different location we moved its a commercial Corridor Police and patrol cars were going up and down the street i spoke to a Police Officer who tells me that there are protests throughout the city on lake shore drive which is the main north south artery in Downtown Chicago in front of trump tower its unclear at this time from the Police Officer if things are getting rockets as they did mid afternoon today and overnight. Last night into saturday but what we do know from looking at twitter is that it appears that things are ratcheting up again lets walk you back a little and tell you that overnight into Early Saturday Morning more than 100 people were arrested a dozen Police Officers were injured a dozen squad cars damaged people regrouped at 2 pm this afternoon at the Federal Building in Downtown Chicago at one point there its estimated there were 3000 people they began marching down another commercial corridor then groups wintered off and at trump tower there was another group they were kneeling down on the ground again thats a reference to the fact that a Police Officer who is charged with 2nd degree murder and 3rd degree manslaughter in minneapolis for kneeling on the neck of 46 year old george floyd. And him dying as a result of that but in any event there were reports earlier this afternoon of Water Bottles and firecrackers being thrown at Police Officers of spray painted profanity laced spray painted created comments on Police Vehicles. People rocking Police Vehicles and at that time there were reports that were 3 officers were injured so dear and we had spoken spoken earlier and i had told you that i thought once the sun set that it was very likely that things would ratchet up again and people would protest this moment is eerily reminiscent of other moment that the city of chicago had and it wont fade from its memory soon that was in 2014 when the police shot and killed a 17 year old look kwan make donald at the time nischelle a the police had said that he was carrying a gun and he lunged at the police 13 months later dash cam on a Police Squad Car revealed that police a Police Officer shot him multiple times as he was walking away from the police there were massive protests the Illinois State attorney general and the department of civil rights initiated. Investigation and the report concluded at that time that the Chicago Police department had quote a violent culture of excessive violence aimed at particularly minority groups and since then derren the Police Department has implemented a plan and worked toward to better train Police Officers and build a better relationship with communities of color all right to natasha the name there in chicago natasha will no doubt come back to you a little bit later during your nighttime when as we mentioned thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in los angeles as well as rob reynolds joins us live from their robes that is bring us up to date with whats happening there. Well the latest aaron is that the mayor Eric Garcetti has imposed a curfew beginning 145 minutes from now on the entire city of los angeles a vast area previously ghar city had said that it would be limited to the downtown area but now a guard said he said this is no longer a protest this is destruction so hes extended the area of. Of curfew as you can see there are some cars which have been set alight Police Vehicles we understand that 56 excuse me policemen have been injured in todays events. Together with last nights violence in Downtown Los Angeles 533. 00 people have all together
