Products pulled from the shelves turkey backs a boycott in retaliation for comments about islam. Donald trumps pick for the u. S. Supreme court has officially been confirmed as the countrys newest top judge. The nomination of any county indiana to be an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States is confirmed. And hes on the ballots appointment was approved in a vote by the Republican Controlled Senate should not be sworn in at the white house the confirmation means the countrys highest court now has a conservative majority no nominee has ever been confirmed this close to a president ial election lets go to alan fischer whos live for us in washington d. C. The democrats really did not want this to happen but it didnt seem to matter what they tried the republicans were determined that this was going to go through. 30 days from her nomination until her confirmation not the fastest in Supreme Court history but very fast particularly when you add in to the fact that the election is already underway as Many Democrats pointed out more than 30000000 votes have already been cast they argued that it would be better to leave this nomination to the next president and if that was donald trump then that was donald trump there of course banking on the whole that it will be joe biden they i tried to bring in Public Opinion they said if it is confirmed then that could be a difficulty for the Affordable Care act it could mean preexisting conditions will no longer be covered by Insurance Companies if she makes the ruling that they think she will make with a hearing jew at the Supreme Court the week after the election they tried every possible step the even tried stilly Senate Sitting until november the 8th and that was defeated as well in the end the reality was the electoral maps just didnt add up they were never going to be able to block this in the senate and if you take away all the politics what has happened here is that a democratically elected president made a nomination for the Supreme Court to the senate and the republican by Senate Passed that it may not be what the democrats want to hear but thats a reality of what has happened in the next few minutes were expecting her to take her constitutional oath she will then be given a judicial oath at the Supreme Court on tuesday that will be administered by chief Justice John Rogers were also exist john roberts were also expecting donald trump to be at the white house as well to perhaps make a few remarks but certainly not what the democrats wanted to see the republicans believe this is a big when particularly as it comes just a week before the president ial election lets just talk about that out and as we wait for him in Coney Barrett to come out the fact that it is so close to the election. Has been a significant factor in this particularly with concerns by the democrats that if there is any jubei it say over the results of the election that it could come down to a decision by the Supreme Court as to the outcome eventually of the election and possibly another 4 years for donald trump. Well you know there has been just in the last couple of hours a decision from the Supreme Court about elections and it went 5. 00 to 3. 00 in favor of the conservative majority saying that wisconsin would have to abide by a lower courts decision which means that all mail in ballots have to be counted on the day of the election something donald trump has been talking a lot about particularly in the last couple of hours on twitter and for Many Democrats that signifies that donald trump is getting the Supreme Court he wants and hes just adding another vote on to that with the appointment of amy connie babbitt many people go back to gore versus bush remember that in 2000 the decision of the election many people believe was decided by the Supreme Court when they ordered florida d to stop counting ballots you see the reflection there so that is why there is concern as far as many people are concerned just looking on social media in the last hour its interesting to see that Many Democrats are already saying ok if these are the rules thats the rules were going to play with so lets see how the election falls and if the democrats win the white house and when the senate then there is the possibility that they will expand the court theres nothing in the constitution that says the u. S. Supreme court has to be one just as if it could be 13 which would give joe biden a lot of picks and that could go through the senate very quickly indeed if the democrats were minded that way what joe biden has said is that hes not overly keen on packing the court what he would much rather do is set up a commission to look at the Judicial Branch and in 180. 00 days come back with recommendations so that could change the face of what is happening in the United States and in particular in the Supreme Court and im just seeing in our pictures amy Connie Bennett is going to be entering pretty soon as the 1st lady maloney a trump arriving there its interesting to note that it will be the 1st justice was School Age Children ever to sit on the Supreme Court these are Lifetime Appointments shes still in her late fortys she could sit on the court for another 30 years that is why these appointments are considered so important so significant. And allan just as more waiting we are expecting her to turn up at any any moment but it is worth pointing out that the decisions that have been made now it looks as though a macone about has come out with the president on all fronts so lets just cross over and follow these pictures and find out what they are going to be saying. But i speak to everyone when i say that the barack family has captured americas heart it is highly fitting that just as barack fills the seat of a true pioneer for women the Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg tonight justice becomes not only the 5th women to serve on our nations highest court but the very 1st mother of School Aged Children to become a Supreme Court justice very important. Over the past few weeks the entire world has seen just as parents deep knowledge tremendous poise and towering intellect she answered questions for hours on end throughout her entire confirmation her impeccable credentials were unquestioned unchallenged and obvious to all. Justice barrett earned a full academic scholarship to Notre Dame Law School graduated 1st in her class and served as a player for Justice Antonin Scalia she was a beloved professor at Notre Dame Law School for 15 years before i very proudly appointed her to the u. S. Circuit court of appeals for the 7th circuit in 2017 the American People have been profoundly impressed to learn a variety of mincer compassion her generosity of faith and her sterling character Justice Barrett made clear she will issue a ruling space solely upon a faithful reading of the law and the constitution as written not legislate from the bench the equal impartial and constitutional rule of law that we enjoy every day in america is one of the crowning achievements in the history of human civilization it is the triumph of reason experience and the values which are eternal and everlasting our devotion to this inheritances is what has made america the most just exceptional and glorious nation ever to exist. I want every american child watching to understand that this is a very special and important ceremony we are fulfilling the duty that passes to each new generation to sustain the National Traditions and virtues that make possible everything we have achieved before that we will do tomorrow that because of our constitution and our culture of freedom you live in a land where anything is possible and were any dream can come true no matter who you are no matter your background in america everyone is entitled to equal protection under our laws and your sacred rights can never ever be taken away the march of liberty that began with the American Revolution continues onward this evening tonight at the white house we Carry Forward the cause of freedom equality and justice for which so many generations of americans have given so much we honor the cause for which men died to win the civil war and for which they jumped out of vera plains and shed their blood on distant battlefields we honor the immortal principles inspired millions in the struggle for civil rights and we take special pride in the nation that inspires billions of people all over the world we must never take this radiant inheritance for granted we must never lose confidence in our history our heritage or in our heroes to reach for the stars we must stand upon the strong and Sturdy Foundation built by those incredible americans who came before. Just as parrot as you take your oath tonight the legacy of our ancestors falsity is the American People put their trust in year and their faith a year as you take up the task of defending our laws our constitution and this country that we all. We ask god to give you is them in carriage i know you will make us all very very proud as long as we are loyal to our founding and to our fellow citizens americas future will be bright americas destiny will be great and americas people will for ever and always be free i now ask Justice Thomas to administer the oath thank you very much. The old. He knew there was where i will work with him because he didnt. Go for it. Against it for. Me for i do not think that i can say no to the state but i will bear a good thing that i take this obligation freely that i hate it obligation me without any mental reservation without getting into a rather big for a purpose. Or a part of it may. Well have been the story that i will blow a police car but ill be off the farm with. The kiddy ok ok with that so dont go so poppy. Thank you well thank you elaine the old. Road thank you thank you so very much. Thank you all for being here tonight and thank you president for selecting me to serve as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court its a privilege to be asked to serve my country and this office and i stand here tonight truly honored and humbled thanks also to the senate for giving its consent to my appointment. I am grateful for the confidence you have expressed in me and i pledge to you and to the American People that i will discharge my duties to the very best of my ability this was a rigorous confirmation process and i thank all of you especially leader mcconnell and chairman graham for helping me to navigate it my heartfelt thanks go to the members of the white house staff and department of justice who worked tirelessly to support me through this process your stamina is remarkable and i have been the beneficiary of it jessie and i are also so grateful to the many people have supported who have supported our family over these last several weeks through ways both tangible and intangible you have made this day possible jesse and i have been truly awestruck by your generosity i have spent a good amount of time over the last month of the senate both in meetings with individual senators and in days of hearings before the Senate Judiciary committee the confirmation process has made ever clearer to me one of the fundamental differences between the federal judiciary and the United States senate and perhaps the most acute is the role of policy preferences it is the job of a senator to pursue her policy preferences in fact it would be a dereliction of duty for her to put policy goals aside by contrast it is the job of a judge to resist her policy preferences it would be a dereliction of duty for her to give in to them. Federal judges dont stand for election thus they have no basis for claiming that their preferences reflect those of the people this separation of duty from political preference is what makes the judiciary distinct among the 3 branches of government a judge declares independence not only from congress and the president but also from the private beliefs that might otherwise move her the judicial oath captures the essence of the judicial duty the rule of law must always control my fellow americans even though we judges dont face elections we still work for you it is your constitution that establishes the rule of law and the Judicial Independence that is so central to it the oath that i have silently taken tonight means at its core that i will do my job without any fear or favor and that i will do so independently of both the political branches and of my own preferences i love the constitution and the democratic republic that it establishes and i will devote myself to preserving it thank you. Youre watching all of us here that was the newest appointee to the u. S. Supreme court amy corney about it speaking just after she was sworn in by Justice Clarence thomas preceded by a speech by the president of the United States i want to bring in. Who has been talking to us over the last couple of minutes for that while last few minutes i said since 800 fisher in washington d. C. Whos following this for us one of the most significant things that i picked up al and that was the fact that she made a point they are saying a judge declares independence not only from congress and president but also from private beliefs the rule of law must always control she said. Its a point she made during her confirmation hearings and you remember i was on the hill for as long as she was a she was giving her testimony over 4 days the hearings took place and she constantly said its the judge really cant listen to this either the law makers of the president theyve got to decide on the law and the constitution now that may be signaling to democrats look you have nothing to worry about about this appointment im going to apply the law as i see it but they point to previous comments as an academic some of the stances that shes taken while being a law lecturer at notre dame and on the Appeals Court as well and theyre concerned they think that this does tell lissa priem court with a conservative majority of 6. 00 to 3. 00 its interesting that donald trump in his speech did not cross about the victory it is an election victory for him it is a big win for him just a w
