View Comments Rep. Peter DeFazio, Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis and Amtrak President Stephen Gardner celebrated the restoration of Amtrak service Monday at the Eugene Station after an infusion of American Rescue Plan funds. DeFazio negotiated $1.7 billion to be included the national economic recovery plan to reinstate all Amtrak services to normal operations, including daily service on 12 long-distance routes across the country. Amtrak services were reduced because of low ridership during the pandemic. “Offering daily long-distance service represents a vital step in our road to recovery,” Amtrak CEO Bill Flynn said. “Recognizing the immense value of our employees, we’d like to thank Congress for enabling service restoration and helping us recall furloughed employees.”
