An exclusive inside look at what has been built at N.Y. Wheel site Updated Feb 26, 2021; Facebook Share STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Before the original New York Wheel project reached its demise in October 2018, a lot of infrastructure was built on the city-owned site. With CanAm Enterprises, which is a sponsor of EB-5 regional center projects, recently announcing that it is embarking on a smaller version of the N.Y. Wheel, the Advance/SILive.com was able to get an exclusive inside look on Thursday at the work already completed at the site. The initial project reached its demise on Oct. 23, 2018, when its principals announced they would not follow through with the construction of the 630-foot-high tourist attraction whose cost had snowballed from an original estimate of $250 million to close to $1 billion.
