Another pretrial conference for former Trigg County Sheriff Jason Barnes will be held in February to enter his plea or set a trial date. Wednesdayâs pretrial conference was regarding charges that include tampering with a witness and unlawful transaction with a minor third degree. David Rye, Barnesâ attorney, made the request for a second pretrial conference virtually at Trigg County Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon, noting that a civil lawsuit had been filed against Barnes. Rye told the judge that Barnes needed to be briefed about how the outcome of this case may affect the civil lawsuit. The civil lawsuit was filed Dec. 17, 2020, by Layla Kunkle, who alleges that the Trigg County Sheriffâs Office discriminated against her in violation of Title IX.
