Share Abdul Aziz Yari, two term governor of Zamfara State is one of contenders for the office of national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In this interview, Yari says he remains the candidate to beat, accusing governors on the platform of the party under the aegis of Progressive Governors Forum of plot to frustrate his ambition. Beyond being a member of the House of Representatives, state party chairman, governor, why do you feel so certain that your political experience really stand you out as a candidate for the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress? Let me start by giving thanks to Almighty Allah who gave me the opportunity to serve our people in various capacities. Number one, let me point out that even before the formation of All Peoples Party, the Alliance for Democracy and other political parties – that is, during the period of the aborted Third Republic when we had United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and others- I contested under the platform of Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) for the membership of the House of Assembly. You know how the military behaved at the time. The elections were not concluded before the parties became defunct immediately General Abdulsalami Abubakar took over and had his transition programme which went on for nine months and culminated in his handing over power to a democratically-elected government in 1999.
