A Traverse City-based non-profit with a Mt. Pleasant chapter and that was started by a Mt. Pleasant native is looking to a year of growth in 2021, thanks to a Facebook program. Spark in the Dark, which leverages the power of social media to connect people in need directly to others who can help them, was one of 77 non-profits worldwide â and one of 14 in North America â accepted into a Facebook accelerator program that provided training and ultimately a little money to help them grow, said Abagail McKiernan, Spark in the Dark's president and executive director. The accelerator provided six months of training to the organization, said McKiernan, who grew up in Mt. Pleasant. They also were one of just a few organizations that qualified for money, $25,000 in Spark's case, she said.
