THE CCP in the title of this article does not stand for the Chinese Communist Party nor has it anything to do with the Communist Party of the Philippines, or about the successful campaign and program of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict against the New People’s Army and its Makabayan bloc front in Congress. CCP stands for the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Sentrong Pangkultura ng Pilipinas in Filipino, the premier showcase of the arts in the country. The Cultural Center is a government-owned and -controlled corporation “established to preserve, develop, and promote arts and culture in the Philippines.” It was founded in 1969 during the administration of the late president Ferdinand Edralin Marcos.
