Proposition A: Almost 82% of ballots cast were in favor of Prop A, a measure that will accelerate negotiations between the firefighters' union and the city by allowing either side to demand binding arbitration if contract talks reached an impasse. Rather than trying to fight through a stalemate, the firefighters or the city could choose to send the dispute to a neutral third-party arbitrator. The firefighters say lengthy contract negotiations are inefficient and drive up costs to taxpayers. Proposition C: About 63% of ballots cast were in favor of Prop C, a measure that would make the Office of Police Oversight answerable to someone other than the city manager, as well as untangle the existing setup in which the manager also oversees the Austin Police Department.
