Summer festival-goers will have to choose between Bay Dreams and the Golden Run events in 2022.
The organiser of Bay Dreams is upset that the team behind Rhythm & Vines has scheduled competing events for the summer festival season, calling it “desperate play”.
New electronic extravaganza Gold Rush will be held in Waihi on January 3, the same day as the first Bay Dreams at Mount Maunganui, while Golden Sounds will take place in Blenheim on January 5, clashing with Bay Dreams in nearby Nelson.
Bay Dreams promoter Mitch Lowe, from Audiology Touring, said it was a “disheartening reality they felt the need to put their festivals on the same day and neighbouring regions as ours”.
