Tufani, a Masai giraffe at the Roger Williams Park Zoo, has died, the zoo announced Friday afternoon. The 9-year-old giraffe had shown signs of gastrointestinal complications, prompting the zoo to bring in "numerous veterinary experts to help plan a course of treatment," but despite those efforts, Tufani died Thursday, the zoo said in a news release. Tufani means storm in Swahili, according to the zoo, which described her as "a spunky goofball." “She had a mischievous, curious nature about her,” said zookeeper Rachael McClung. “She loved to beg for treats and was really just an absolute sweetheart.”
