Historically, West Lafayette versus Lafayette Central Catholic football will not match up with the best rivalries in the state. But when the two programs renewed their rivalry for the 2011 season, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more competitive battle between two top-tier programs, including the first meeting in Week 9 of the 2011 season, both two years removed from undefeated state championship seasons. Class A No. 1 Central Catholic defeated 3A No. 1 West Lafayette 21-14 on essentially a walk-off pick six. West Lafayette would advance to the Class 3A north semistate and Central Catholic went on to win the Class A title.
