GOOBJOOG NEWS|HARGEISA: The UK and Somaliland governments Tuesday jointly launched the 22 kilometre Hargeisa by-pass which is part of the 240 km Berbera Corridor that is set to boost trade between the break-away region and Ethiopia in addition to fostering Somaliland’s quest to become a key trade hub in the region. President Muse Bihi and UK ambassador to Somalia Kate Foster flagged off the 22.5 km road construction project which is expected to ultimately link the Berbera Port to Ethiopia terminating at the border town of Togochale. According to a statement from the British embassy in Mogadishu, the ‘ UK-supported bypass will reduce the time and cost of transporting goods between Berbera Port and landlocked Ethiopia by addressing a strategic checkpoint on the Berbera corridor.’
