A southern Minnesota public pool has been temporarily shut down following the death of a child.
The apparent drowning happened Saturday at Spring Lake Park Swim Facility in North Mankato, where officials are now conducting a "thorough review of the facility's safety procedures":
A release from the city says the victim was a local nine-year-old boy but does not identify him by name.
"Staff responded immediately and appropriately to the incident, using their training to render aid to the boy and ensure the safety of other guests,"  a city official said in the release. "However, out of an abundance of caution we want to complete a review of the incident before reopening the facility."
