Bridge construction underway for new Billings Bypass project Bridge construction beginning for Billings Bypass project By: Russ Riesinger and last updated 2021-05-19 19:52:29-04 Construction is well underway on the Yellowstone River Bridge segment of the Billings Bypass project, a multi-phase construction project that will eventually be a big timesaver and eliminate travel headaches between the Billings Heights to Lockwood and vice versa. Construction crews are now in the process of putting the bridge girders, the horizontal beams that will support the new roadway, into place on top of the concrete bridge piers that were constructed earlier this winter. âThey have been going at it nonstop. They have two crews they come in and alternate crews to maintain a steady workflow,â says James Stevenson, engineering project manager for the Montana Department of Transportation.
