Car crashes into tree shutting down roads in the College area Jaromir Chalabala and last updated 2021-01-28 18:02:15-05 SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One person was seriously injured Thursday when a car swerved off a College-area street and crashed into a tree. According to San Diego Police, the crash happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Montezuma Road, just southwest of San Diego State University. Police say they found the driver sleeping in his car near College Ave. and Montezuma Rd and saw a gun between the driver's legs. When the driver woke up, he took off. Police say the man sped down Montezuma Rd. East of Collwood Blvd. and crashed into a pine tree. He suffered serious injures and is recovering at Scripps Mercy Hospital.
