By Rick Hummel St. Louis Post-Dispatch Injured pitchers are starting to return for the Cardinals. Righthander Daniel Ponce de Leon (right shoulder inflammation) was activated before Tuesday nightâs game here with the Pittsburgh Pirates. And president of baseball operations John Mozeliak also said that Carlos Martinez (sprained right ankle) and Miles Mikolas (right shoulder) were primed to be activated either this weekend to start here against the Chicago Cubs or next week in Chicago to face the White Sox. Mikolas came off a strong rehab outing at Memphis on Sunday and Martinez seemed all right when he threw his bullpen session before the game with the Pirates. Manager Mike Shildt said he would have pitching pairings for the Cubs series on Wednesday.
