THE resurgence of interest in Warrington's former Carlton Club could be the catalyst for the renaissance of Sankey Street. That is the view of a former mayor of Warrington who was a regular of the famous club in the 1960s and 70s. Memories of the club, which was located up a narrow flight of stairs off Sankey Street, have been reignited in recent weeks after plans were announced for a new Carlton Bistro close to where the club was. Cllr Linda Dirir was a regular of the club in the 1960s and 70s. She saw huge American Motown stars such as Ben E King and Edwin Starr.
