Cavan Legacy Capital Acquires Planetizen, Sets Goals for Long-Term Growth After more than two decades of audience growth and expansion into new products and services, Planetizen and Planetizen Courses have been acquired. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 8, 2021 Los Angeles - Cavan Legacy Capital and Planetizen today announced a change in ownership, marking the end of 21 years of ownership and operation by Planetizen Founder Chris Steins and a new era of leadership as the leading independent resource for people passionate about planning. Josh Skelly, Cavan Legacy Capital founder, will assume leadership as editor-in-chief at Planetizen and Planetizen Courses. Josh Skelly is investing in Planetizen at a key moment of growth—with record-high enrollment in both Planetizen Courses and the Planetizen AICP Exam Preparation Class and an increasing number of products and services to add to valued offerings like the Planetizen Guide to Graduate Urban Planning Programs, the Planetizen Jobs Board, the Planetizen Schools Directory, and Planetizen's announcement boards for events and requests for proposals. "I am excited to continue Planetizen’s culture of innovation and offer new products and services like the Planning Commissioners Training launched in conjunction with Michigan State University in 2021," says Josh Skelly. "Beyond that, we at Planetizen remain committed to providing the foremost resource for urban planning news and education." Chris Steins founded Planetizen in 2000, along with co-founder Abhijeet Chavan, to explore online technology and track the field of planning in Los Angeles. In 2006, Planetizen Courses was launched to provide learning resources created for and by planners. Planetizen and Planetizen Courses together have grown to reach national and international audiences. "Josh Skelly's acquisition of Planetizen allows me to take a step toward retirement with Planetizen in good hands after 21 years," says Planetizen Founder Chris Steins. "I will remain active in the planning community, teaching courses at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California, and attending APA events to reconnect with friends and colleagues." The Planetizen audience can expect to see the same steady stream of news and analysis, career resources, and new courses on Planetizen and Planetizen Courses. All other leadership roles at Planetizen and Planetizen Courses remain unchanged, and the entire team remains dedicated to advancing the field of planning.
