Singer and actress Cher apologized for a controversial statement she made on social media on Friday, where she suggested she may have been able to prevent George Floyd’s death.
A report by CNN recounts the events of May 25, 2020 when Floyd, an unarmed Black man died while in police custody. During Floyd’s arrest, Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for close to nine minutes, resulting in his death. Chauvin’s trial is currently underway with charges of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
