Chiefs TE Travis Kelce helping transform this old muffler shop for Operation Breakthrough

Operation Breakthrough in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, is breaking ground on a project Monday that will help them serve even more kids in Kansas City. And they've got a big helper attached to the project — Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. With help from Kelce's Eighty-Seven and Running Foundation, work begins Monday to transform an old, dilapidated muffler shop right next to the Operation Breakthrough facility into something called the Ignition Lab. The old muffler shop was one of Kelce's first purchases after signing a big contract extension last year.Kelce said he wanted to find a way to help expand Operation Breakthrough. The Ignition Lab will serve as the next step for students between the ages of 14 and 18 who have aged out of Operation Breakthrough's other programs. The lab will offer practical opportunities to engage those teenagers in real-world learning experiences with a focus on STEM education and training. Officials said they hope to have the Ignition Lab ready to go this fall, just in time for the start of the new school year.
