By Jason Bates Climate change problem solvers: startups with solutions Startups funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation are creating technologies intended to reduce the impact of climate change. From reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and advancing alternative fuels to developing recycling robots and designing new batteries, startups are moving basic research out of the laboratory and toward broad-scale use. America's Seed Fund, powered by NSF, helps startups navigate the earliest stages of technology translation -- investing roughly $200 million annually. Each startup can receive up to $2 million to support translational research and development to accelerate the creation of their technology and move it into the marketplace.
