Kids ages 12 to 15 are now able to get the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services announced in a press release this week. The other two available vaccines â Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Janssen â are authorized for people aged 18 or older. However, state medical experts have said Modernaâs authorization could come soon. After the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the emergency use of the vaccine for young teens on Monday, the Kodiak Island Ambulatory Care Clinic began receiving dozens of requests for vaccine appointments. The clinic has administered about a dozen Pfizer vaccines per day to 12- to 15-year-olds, said Dr. John Koller, who runs the clinic. He said that he expects many more appointments over the weekend.Â
