Hes picked up over a million followers across social media. This is really making him a mainstream star in a way he never was before. Its good for taylors profile too but she does not need that kind of help. Its good taylor swift finally putting travis kelce on the map. Were going to show you his answer to that question next. The Justice Department<\/a> has general practices about not making significant overt steps for charging within a month or so of around election. We are clearly outside of that time frame and these cases your critics say its time to ruin mr. Trumps chances in the election. Well, thats absolutely not true. Justice department prosecutors are nonpartisan. That was Attorney General<\/a> Merrick Garland<\/a> last night responding to donald trump and critics who argue that the former president s current legal mess was engineered to sabotage his 2024 bid for the white house. Trump is expected back in court in just hours. The new York Attorney<\/a> generals fraud case is there. Hes accused of enbe riching himself by inflating the valid u of properties that launched him to fame. Everything i touched turned to gold. Well, new york is doing great, i will tell you, whether its 40 Wall Street<\/a> or whether its trump tower or any of the other things we own is doing great. Im really rich. Im very rich. I built an unbelievable company. The money youre talking about is a lot. Err roll lewis and john avlon are back with us. Just note his legal bills are still being paid by donors given his wealth. Today we talked about this when the judge first came out with a summary judgment. This is the thing that gets at the heart of donald trump and who he is, my understanding is hes pretty upset and angry about it, is part of the reason why hes actually physically showing up today. Whats your sense of what happens Going Forward<\/a> here. Hes in a lot of trouble. This does strike at the heart of things. Its different from all of the criminal cases. Put all of that aside. This is long Standing Practices<\/a> by donald trump for which hes now being held to account and what this could do is cancel his ability to easily do business in new york and really harm his ability to get financing, to continue to sort of run his real estate empire. That is thats real serious. And, frankly, as the clip suggested, it goes to the heart of who he is and his public presentation. And so this kind of undermines a big part of his case. Even his political opponents back in 2016 never really went there and said, you know, hes kind of a fraud as a businessman. He kind of lies about the value of his properties. Hes not as rich as he says. Nobody really got into that. A court might end up finding that and that could have that introduces a new part of the political conversation that we have not heard up until now. I think thats i think thats right. I think also the fact that trumps going to be in court today where hes tried to avoid, you know, situations where he might be under oath because he takes this so personally i think makes it a moment that is worthy of our attention. This is not the kind of, you know, coverage thats procedural. This is a big moment for the exact reasons that erroll said. This is a guy whose entire rise is predicated upon the idea that hes a very rich, successful billionaire. The fact you said that because its a civil trial, he doesnt have to be in court. He will have to be in court for the criminal trial coming up. Yes. He didnt go to the e. Jean carole trial for example. What does this tell us about whats important to him . Its all about the money. Its all about the benjamins. Michael cohen made this point. This is something thats been hiding in plain sight. Its not like getting al capone. Hes taking this personally. The judges initial that was blistering. The judge gets to decide this one, not a jury. The same judge. Its a great point because the former president attacked the judge along with Letitia James<\/a> in a social media post last night. Youre a lawyer. Would you advise attacking the judge . Oh, no you dont. Especially if theres no jury. Its one thing to attack the process and the court because youre trying to sort of identify one or two jurors that you can flip to your side. In this case the judge is the whole case and the judge is going to determine the law and the judge has already determined as a matter of law that this is somebody who has committed a lot of fraud. So hes really kind of be on the back foot. Hes kind of coming in here as an underdog. Thats probably why hes showing up in person but, no, you dont attack the court. You dont attack the law. They repeated the same arguments over and over again and the judge slapped it down, sanctioned the lawyers, fined them each 7500. This you cant just keep saying it. Like i get it. He says this is how real estate is done. Ive lied about trump tower for years. Its only 58 stories tall but i charge people more if i say its 68 floors. The judge has said, you cant do that to an extreme and you dont get to put an asterisk at the bottom of it. Everything in my Financial Statement<\/a> has not been fully audited. It might be a lie. Thats not how you do commercial business. Thats really what the judge has said. Attacking him for saying that, i dont know if its going to change his mind. Attacking the judge, attacking the court, attacking the system of laws is what donald trump does. This is a place where he could get in trouble. One thing to note, its not a jury because thats what Donald Trumps<\/a> legal its in the a jury. Thats going to be interesting to see how that choice plays out. Merrick garland last night yes. Everyone might not have seen it last night. Scott pelly did a brilliant interview with Merrick Garland<\/a>. At one point later in the interview Merrick Garland<\/a> chokes up and he is talking about democracy and his Family History<\/a> and some of his Family Members<\/a> fleeing the nazis, not surviving. It was just really interesting to see that perspective from him zbirch all of the incoming that hes facing, all of the criticism for how the department has handled a number of the folks here, including the hunter biden probe. Just given his history and to see that from him i was struck. Thats the legacy we all are here to defend, all our families. We forget sometimes in the day to day thrust and perry of politics thats whats really at stake is democracy, selfgovernment. Thats something we should feel emotionally about. Merrick garland is getting heat from those at the left saying he didnt move fast enough. Donald trump and others saying hes been radical. This is about equal justice and the law.
