The Daily Jeffersonian Representatives of the Guernsey County Water Department met with commissioners this week to discuss a potential change in reconnection fees for customers who voluntarily disconnect service for at least a year. Superintendent Jeff Alfman and office manager Rita McKnight discussed the potential changes for water rates with commissioners at their request. A sewer reconnection fee of $360 would remain unchanged due to federal mandates for the county's system. According to McKnight, the water department currently charges $420 (12 months at the base rate of $35) to reconnect water service shut off for at least a year. Commissioners Jack Marlin and Dave Wilson questioned if such a fee was necessary.
