Contractor set to start traffic safety project in downtown Fairfield FAIRFIELD — Several streets downtown will be closed overnight starting Monday as a contractor begins work on a traffic safety project linked to the Heart of Fairfield plan. Crews will close portions of Texas, Webster, Jackson and Madison streets at 9 p.m. Monday to work on the bollards traffic safety project, the city reports. Work will continue until 5 a.m. Tuesday. Bollards are posts used to divert traffic. The City Council approved the plans and specifications and awarded a $319,500 contract April 20 to Kerex Engineering Inc. for the Heart of Fairfield Bollards Project. Funding comes from the Intergovernmental Loan Fund.
