The Independent Stark County area libraries plan to keep copies of controversial Dr. Seuss books that include racially and ethnically insensitive characters in public circulation. Dr. Seuss Enterprises, the company that protects the legacy of Dr. Seuss, announced earlier this month they would cease publication of the books, which contain "hurtful and wrong" portrayals of characters. Local library officials said they want to be sensitive to everyone in the community. They also believe there is value in those books remaining in circulation. At the Stark County District Library, some of the titles in question are part of the library's collection, said Stephanie Cargill, district communications director.
