Cops nab 18 in raid on gambling call centre that raked in RM100,000 a day

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained 18 individuals, including 10 Chinese nationals, following a raid on an illegal gambling call centre at Taman Orkid Desa in Cheras here.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Kuala Lumpur CID raided the premises at about 11.45pm on Wednesday (April 28).
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Saiful Annuar Yusoff said on Thursday (April 29) police arrested five men and five women from China along with eight local men during the raid.
"We seized various items including 109 mobile phones, 27 laptops and RM54,000 cash.
"The seized items are worth about RM300,000," he added.
Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate was using the premises as a call centre to promote illegal gambling to local punters, he said.
