Premium Content Sunshine Coast Council is poised to push forward with its plans for coastline protection. The council's Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy is due to be adopted at the May ordinary meeting on Thursday. Formal consultation was undertaken from November 9 to December 7, 2020. The community feedback included the critical role a healthy coastal zone played in underpinning the economy and community identity. Other themes that emerged during consultation included the need for a great focus on maintaining dunal vegetation and buffers as a main defence to rising sea levels and coastal hazards. The feedback also identified a strong desire from many in the community to be involved in ongoing management of the coastal zone and the need for decision making to be "based on the best available scientific evidence and assessment of risk".
