View Comments New coronavirus cases leaped in New York in the week ending Sunday, rising 66% as 3,970 cases were reported, state and national records show. The rise still represented a small number of new cases compared to the spring and last year, and the state's overall positivity rates has been under 1% for more than a month, falling to lower than 0.4% in mid June. On Monday, the state's positivity rate — which is the percentage of COVID tests that come back positive — had ticked up to 1.1%, and the seven-day average was 0.88%. But New York was still one of 47 states that reported higher case counts in the week ending Monday, records show, as COVID variants has raised the concern of health officials and as the push for vaccinations continue.
