CSPAN Ben Carson Betsy DeVos Others At Faith Freedom Coalition July 14, 2024

Senate majority leader, senators cruz, rubio, ted congressman mark meadows, one of our heroes. Were just getting started. You will hear from four members of the cabinet this morning, heroes of our cause, senators, congressmen, and it is my great privilege to kick off the morning with a man who is truly one of the most articulate and one of the most courageous defenders of faith and freedom in america today, he is a dear friend of this organization, his personal story i think is one of the most inspiring of our time. A man who grew up in poverty, a man who many statistically would a life ofgned to hopelessness and deprivation and instead he rose to a point where he graduated from yale university, the university of Michigan Law School and the medicals school sorry dan i just give you a different vocation, we are glad you are a doctor and not a lawyer by the way. Evan may that as the son d. Of an mg. He was the director of new or logical pediatric. He performed the First Successful separation of who were chin twins joined at the head. He is the bestselling author of nine books, he is been involved in christian and faithtaste charities, faithbased charities and is known nationally. For many of us the moment when be really raised him up to such an influential leader and our society within 2013 when he gave that in incredible speech at the National Prayer breakfast. The textver forget messages and emails that i got after he did that. I dont know what i enjoyed more, the substance of dr. Carsons remarks, or the look on Barack Obamas face that he was delivering them. I had that last time much fun was when Mother Teresa talked about the issue of life when no clinton was at the same Prayer Breakfast. Today he is the secretary of housing and urban development and i believe i am correct in saying that he was the first one of the candidates out of the field to endorse donald trump in 2016, i think right before the florida primary. He is our brother in the lord and our friend, please welcome dr. Then carson. Carson. En applause]d thank you. Its wonderful being here with you again. I just wanted to talk a little , becausemorning about bravery is what helped to has sosh his country and much to do with so many things that happened in my life. I remember specifically one case, ular neurosurgical people develop tumors throughout their nervous system. There was a young man who developed one right in the middle of his brain stem, this is an in operable area so none of the neurosurgeons wanted to operate on him. Wife was ahat his pediatric nurse surgery nurse so i couldnt escape her. She kept saying, you have to operate on my husband and i said i am a pediatric neurosurgeon and he is an adult. She wore me down and i finally said i will talk to him. You know, if i operate on this tumor where it is located there is a 5050 chance that you will die on the he and he said, but dr. Dr. If you dont operate there is a 100 chance that i will die. That sounds pretty mature. Took into the operating room, got down to the brain stem area full of abnormal blood vessels, i opened a very tiny hole in the side of the ponds in the area where i figured the tumor would begin from there and then used a small perl and i felt something that felt a little different inconsistency, i grabbed and started to pull it out. You cant make much of a whole because the brainstem is like a coaxial cable. As we were delivering the tumor, the potential sweat flat, like an ekg for the brain. The anesthesiologists said, you killed him. Hes stand. The amnesty geologist was against the operation. Continued, the mood was somber and he went back to the icu on life support. When i came in the next morning, he was sitting up in bed telling jokes. Applause]d it took a lot of courage to do that operation that other people were not willing to do. That happened to me a lot of time stirring the course of my career but it wasnt because i was all that great. It was because i always asked god for guidance and asked him for wisdom. [cheers and applause] where real courage comes from, it doesnt come from within me, it comes from god and knowing who has all of the power. That guided me in my journey politics. Ine to it doesnt mean i became a politician, i am not a politician and i hope to god that i never become one. That Prayer Breakfast speech and everybody said you should run for president i said give me a break, thats the last thing i want to do. Every place i went i have over 500,000 petitions in my office i could barely get my foot in there. Lord, this is, not something that particularly appeals to me, but to recognize that people who run for president have an organization, a rolodex with all the names, big campaign chests. I dont have any of that stuff nor do i intend to go out and develop it. If you want me to do this, you have to supply all that stuff. I know i had an organization can what were making more money a month than the rnc, it was ridiculous. [cheers and applause] i entered that field where the courage came in, i knew what it would mean. In our Society Today for some people on the other side the only thing worse than satan is a black conservative. Cheers and applause] because if you are black you are supposed to think a certain way and if you dont and that way you are an uncle tom and you have all this kind of stuff. Like, you know that sounds . Racism. [cheers and applause] knew i would be attacked and go from being a hero to being dealt the goat. Thinking, what if all the other people who preceded me who helped make this a great country had taken that attitude . Where would we be . Some of us just have to go out what would ask god you have me do . Ask for the wisdom to do it and not worry about the consequences, god will take care of the consequences. What we have this a country where we dont guarantee people anything. We advocate for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all of our people. Have strayed on those things that is one way have gotten into trouble. Madeit comes to liberty we a huge mistake with slavery. There is no question about it. But what do wise people do . They learn from their mistakes. There are a lot of things that we can learn one of the things that i learned from it, people who were slave owners thought they owned the slaves, it was their property and they could do anything they wanted, p them, rate them and it was ok because they belong to them. There were others who said no that is abominable, theres no way i can participate in that. , thethere were those abolitionists that said not only can i not participate but i have to stand up for those who are being killed. Who are being enslaved. Be prochoice, i said i dont believe in abortion but its not going to stop anybody else from doing it. What if the abolitionists felt that way . The lives of the slaves were important and the lives of our. Ittle babies are important i operated on lots of little , iies that were premature asked the aclu onetime, i said that will you advocate for babies that are still in the mothers womb . For those whoeak cant speak for themselves. If they said now they cant do that. I said what about the ones who are premature . They are in and a cube eight or . For . Ey are in an incubator they said oh yeah, no problem. I said would you say that in public and hes said no. Now they will say it in public. Society hase our gone, this is where the values have gone. Human life that is viable outside of the womb, they make it into an issue of womens rights. It has nothing to do with womens rights. Applause]d dignity ofo with human life and we have a creator who was wise enough to recognize that there is no more sacred bond than that between a mother and the child she is carrying and they have perverted that bond into something that becomes evil in some peoples eyes. This is something that is harming me and something i have the right to kill. How in the world did we as a society get as a to that point . We have to talk about these things. Up forlingness to stand peoples rights that has resulted in this becoming the nation that it has become. A lot of people criticize our nation and say we are a horrible place in the the rich are ruining everything and this group is ruining everything. If we are so horrible why do people form caravans and try to get here . Think about that. ,e are a compassionate people but what is compassion . Real compassion is being fair to everybody. Not picking one specific group as saying that their rights trump everybody else. Everybody gets it will rise but nobody gets extra rights. Thatis something characterizes our fair nation. When it comes to the pursuit of happiness is about creating opportunities for people. Its not about guaranteeing people anything. Everything, newsflash, it is not free. Somebody has to pay for it. The richthing about are not paying their fair share, when i was running you may remember that i said whos the fairest individual in the universe . God. And what did he say . , he didntant to tie say if your crops fail you dont own me any thing. A billion dollars you pay 100 million, you might tend dollars juppe one you pay one. Why is that complex . Its only when people start injecting their own opinion into it that it becomes complex. We have the ability to do it the right way and being fair, what about being fair to our children and grandchildren and not giving them on told debt to have to payoff which will compromise the quality of their lives . We have to be thinking about that, helping others thats what we do. When i was growing up there were people who reach out and helped realize what our financial situation was. I remember some of the teachers that were concerned about our welfare. Teacher ie band and i the bond band played the baritone. I was really good if i do say so myself. I was offered a scholarship to interlochen, those of you who know interlochen you know how significant that is. Benny, dont except that scholarship. Be ase you are going to great doctor and i dont want you to get sidetracked. He was concerned about me, not about him. I remember miss miller, my english teacher i started getting off track and hanging out with the wrong people and she made it quite clear that she was going to kill me if i cap doing that. Things helps me but thats what we should be thinking about, giving people opportunity. We have to remember that we cannot act like the others. They say all us, manner of horrible things against us. If we do the same thing, if everybody gets in the mod then always end up with is a bunch of dirty people. Somebody has to be the adult. We have to realize that we the American People are not each others enemy. Ome people act that way most importantly, thats not be allowed to suppress our faith in god. When i came to Government People said to me, you have to stop talking about god so much. I said thats not happening. That is a very important part of who i am. Thate who say stuff like do they realize that our founding document talks about certain rights given to us by creator. E your we are one nation under god, that many courtrooms on the wall it says in dodd we trust her at every bill in our wallet says in god we trust. Money but we are not supposed to talk about it, what is that . Schizophrenia. We must be willing to stand up for those principles and the only way that we can be the land of the free is if we are the home of the brave. Thank you very much. Applause]d please welcome to the stage the ceo of concerned women for america, penny nance. Its good to see you, what an honor to be here with great americans. I am always so honored to be here with you. Concerned women for america is the nations largest Public Policy organization for women and we are pro life. Night . Talk about last what is up with the Democratic Party . 20 people running that are extremists, right . Arent understand that they leading with the idea of free stuff ive forcing hardworking americans who have done everything right, paid their taxes and go to work every day and they are going to have to take away their money from their paycheck to reward people who arent even legal citizens. I dont understand. That does not sound like a winning proposition to me. Hard people how work and how important their money is to them. The issue of abortion . That basically said abortion should be legal at any time, any reason, all paid for you. Thats what they said to us. That is not in touch with what we believe and it is not in touch with the vast majority of the American People. One little piece of unsolicited advice, when are you going to throw planned parenthood overboard because they are dragging you down. Every bit of what you are hearing comes from the planned parenthood playbook. Our money for planned parenthood we are seeing a comeback to us. We are seeing it come back to us through the word of these politicians. I want to talk to you today and introduce to you a politician who when i think about her is the word courageous that comes to mind. Antithesis of what we saw on the stage last night. Iowa wasoni ernst from elected as the first moment to serve and federal office from the great state of iowa. She also became the first female combat veteran elected to serve in the United States senate. Joni received her undergraduate degree from iowa state where she joined the rotc program. She served in the army reserve and in 2003 she served as a Company Commander and kuwait and iraq leading 150 Iowa Army National guard smit during Operation Iraqi freedom. She retired as a lieutenant colonel, having served 23 years. Think think about her i aat is not just a she is warrior. She is so very early in her was, howw strong she she took a lead on the issue. As a brandnew freshman senator, her first year joni ernst led the d funding of planned parenthood. Usually people who want to take on a position want to take on , theyrebortion agenda not newbies, right. Grateful, her i am so i am so impressed that you are so courageous as a brandnew senator that you are willing to lead on this issue. What she said to me was so telling and i think how could i not . Thecould i not stand up for this is why i was elected. I was elected to lead and then to represent my constituents and protect life. She has never wavered from that position for one moment. We prayed together and that cemented our relationship. She not only serves on the Armed Services committee but also on the Senate Judiciary committee. With me she will be and all the hearings coming forward on judicial nominees of the court and perhaps even another Supreme Court nominee. [cheers and applause] we need her there, right . Faith, she is a woman who fights on the behalf of life she is a courageous warrior, this tells you all you need to know about joni ernst. I want to welcome to the stage my friend, senator for the great state of iowa, joni ernst. Sen ernst thank you. It is so great to be with you, and to start my day with all of you. Thank you. It is truly wonderful to be with you. And im saying thank you, penny, thank you so much for your love and friendship three is many years through these many years. And a big thanks to faith and Freedom Coalition for putting this great conference together. When i looking out across this room, i see the faces, and its a little dark out there. But i can see some of your faces. And i know that those faces are the faces of passionate men and women who are fighting hard to ,efend our freedom, our values and basically put, our way of life. Thank you. You are the voice for religious , love ofconservativism country, and the most vulnerable , as penny mentioned. You understand, and live by the nationhat we are one under god. [applause] thats right. Thank you. As somebody who grew up in smalltown rural iowa, where the importance of a faith was the bedrock of our community, im certain about the radicalized agenda that we see from the folks on the far left. It continues to make its way homes, andmmunities, our families. Is the least of which attack on on the unborn. Over the past year, we have witnessed the hideous truth about the farreaching grasp of the abortion industry, and its increasingly ugly political agenda. Politicians have not only , whiled aborting a child a woman is in labor. But they have gone so far as to support the termination of a tiled child after its birth. Floorr this year, on the of the senate, we considered a bill. One that i proudly supported, that would put an end to infanticide. Guess what happened . What you think happened . Democrats blocked it. They block the bill that would end infanticide. Decency, and basic human compassion have fallen by the wayside. We have moved beyond all common sense, when our most deliberative body, the United States senate, can no longer murder. Sly condemn [applause] is something that cannot stand. My prolife colleagues and i are working hard to stop any taxpayer dollars from going to planned parenthood. Taxpayers should not be forced to foot the bill of roughly half 1 billion annually for an suchization that exhibits disrespect and absolute disregard for human life. Held aar we also prolife hearing in the Senate Judiciary committee, and followed that with a Committee Vote on the pain capable unborn Child Protection act, which would prevent a child from being aborted after five months of when theyt, the time can feel pain in the womb. Year, my colleagues and i asked the Trump Administration to issue new title x rules, and restore familyplanning regulation. Almost immediately, the Trump Administration issued a new proposal to redirect funding from abortion providers to clinics that serve mothers and babies. [applause] because this administration is prolife. Is like me, President Trump not just caring for life in the womb, he is with us in congress to make sure our new babies and adopted children are taken care paid parental leave a priority. Right now, the trump economy is looming. We can see that. This booming economy means that more people are getting out into the workforce. Dadsans that more moms and than ever are trying to balance the reality of caring for a new child, while also putting food on the table. I so often hear this from my iowa parents and Small Business owners, who simply cannot afford to p
