This is a responsible measure and pause the development of this Nuclear Facility while we fix the cost overruns and mismanagement. Given the rhetoric on the republican side of the aisle bringing incompetents i have spending, this amendment should be what we agree on. The costs tripled from 36. 6 billion to nearly 11 billion since the start of the project and will likely to continue to increase since the project is not scheduled to be completed until 2035. According to the august Government Accounting Office report, it will probably be delayed further until 2038. Why are we spending money on this wasteful facility. You think it would be part of our Critical National security. But thats not the case. For those unfamiliar with this facility, it is being produced to produce plume pits which is the core of a Nuclear Weapon. We already have thousands of these pits. Some will stand up here and say, oh, my, we need to replace them because they age out. But these pits will last at least 100 years and by some studies, independent panel suggested that these pits have a longer life cycle. Thats why the house passed in the fiscal ndaa for an independent assess of plutonium pit agents. If we care about Government Spending we must indicate a need to rebuild a stockpile that we already have in place and really should never be used.
