Campaign rally in kentucky this is about 45 minutes. [cheers and applause] louisville thank you. [bernie] [bernie] [bernie] thank you to relic with their great music. And richard who organized the ad robber and the great work he is doing let me think your member of the United StatesCongress John for all that he has done. [applause] we have worked together on many issues and youre so lucky to have such a great congressman. Let me thank all of you not only for being here today but for the support that you gave me during the last campaign. [cheers and applause] in 2016 we were not expected to do well when we came within a few votes of winning and this time around he will not come within a few votes. [cheers and applause] not only are we going to win here in kentucky and the democratic nomination. Not just asking for your Political Support i am here as the United States senator to ask Mitch Mcconnell the majority leader of the u. S. Senate to do the right thing. [cheers and applause] and that is stop using his office to represent the wealthy and the powerful to protect the working families of kentucky. [cheers and applause] and here is the simple truth. With income wealth and the quality the top have more wealth than the bottom half of america were in the top 1 percent owns more wealth than the bottom 92 percent. [booing] with large corporations are earning recordbreaking profits. [booing] and ceos make 300 times more than their workers. [booing] it is not the billionaire class it is the working class. [cheers and applause] take a look around you. Take a look at america and tell your wealthy Campaign Contributors that enough is enough and they cannot have it all. [cheers and applause] today in kentucky and vermont half of our people are living paycheck to paycheck. I know a little bit about that. If you end up in the hospital you are worried how you pay the bill if you cant get to work and feed your family. So today in america 87 Million People either have no Health Insurance at all or are underinsured and millions of people who cannot afford the prescription drugs they need to stay alive throughout kentucky and vermont hundreds of thousands of people who cannot afford to go to college or ours so deeply in debt and tonight we have half a million americans sleeping on the streets. [booing] so today here i say to the senator, stop worrying about your billionaire friends. They are doing just fine. [cheers and applause] start worrying about the working families of your state and those who are struggling to keep their heads above water. Today i say here stop blocking legislation. [cheers and applause] you can vote against that legislation but the democracy is entitled to a debate. But with the working people and low income people but the crisis facing the working class of the country is acute right here in kentucky when 10000 where those counties are located. Ten out of 20 poorest counties are right here in your state. Stopped turning your back on your constituents. [cheers and applause] we are talking about counties were 30 or 40 percent of people are living in poverty were thousands of residents and Senior Citizens are trying to get by on ten or 15 or 20000 per year. But over 22 percent of the children are living in poverty more than 190,000 workers have extremely low wages and half a Million People are trying to get by on less than 15 an hour. Senator mcconnell listen to those people. [cheers and applause] brothers and sisters, i dont have to tell anyone here that we are living in a Pivotal Moment in american history. Right now our country faces more challenges and a more crisis than any time in modern history. I am talking about a growth of oligarchy and disastrous Citizens UnitedSupreme Court decision. [applause] and senator mcconnell which allows billionaires to spend huge amounts of money in elections for god talking about a president pulling the country toward authority authoritarianism. And with those Climate Change i am talking about dysfunctional health care system. Where 30000 americans die every year. I am talking about a broken criminal justice system. And a broken immigration system. And millions of Senior Citizens who are unable to retire and were talking about a housing crisis and to talk about the need for women to control their own bodies. [cheers and applause] i am talking about the needs and safety. And i am talking about protecting the integrity of our elections. And of those i just spoke some of those issues out there. That people to resolve or discuss or debate that instead of taking action mcconnell is obstructing and obstructing. Refusing to allow a vote on any of the bills introduced in the senate or that have been passed already in the house. So today we are here. So enough is enough. Stopped against obstruction and stop taking action to raise the minimum wage. To stop gun violence in america. [cheers and applause] and with the integrity of our elections. And with those workers in kentucky. To guarantee healthcare. [cheers and applause] and from Climate Change once and for all billionaires from running the elections. [cheers and applause] and so i say to senator mcconnell if you want to vote against the legislation that is why. You have the right to come back to kentucky and tell people why you voted the way you did. [cheers and applause] it on the most important issue stop your cowardice and debate the issues. [cheers and applause] but just look briefly at some of those issues. At the richest country in the history of the world, it is not acceptable millions of workers are forced to work two or three jobs just to recruit food off the table and pay the bills. [applause] it is not a radical idea you should not live in poverty. [cheers and applause] it should lift americans out of poverty not keep them in poverty. [cheers and applause] the 7. 25 federal minimum wage is a starvation wage. [cheers and applause] we must raise the minimum that has not been raised in eight years. It should be at least 13 an hour. [cheers and applause] and that will make it easier for the workers to join unions. [cheers and applause] and so over the last several years those in america have voted to raise the minimum wage at 15 an hour and the house of representatives passed legislation that i authored to raise the minimum minimum wage of 15 an hour. [cheers and applause] and now to do the right thing and millions are waiting to do the right thing. [cheers and applause] and then refusing to bring that bill up on the senate floor. So to the people of kentucky and america not to the wealthy Campaign Contributors, allow 15dollar an hour minimum wage bill to get pass the senate. [cheers and applause] if senator mcconville wants to vote against and that is fine but then you will have to come home to explain to over half a billion workers here in kentucky who are making less than 15 an hour why they do not deserve of a raise 4300 a year. Then explained to the working people why you support tax breaks for billionaires but you dont want to raise the minimum wage to a living wage. [cheers and applause] so i say it is time to end your obstruction it is time for the senate to vote. [applause] so lets be clear 15dollar minimum our wage is not the only bill that senator mcconnell is blocking. Last month the house passed legislation to prevent companies from cutting the earned pension benefits of one a half million workers and retirees in the employer pension plans. [booing] and with wage increases and that includes more than 24000 right here in kentucky with up to 15 percent. So senator mcconnell wants to explain and why they are opposed to legislation so they should not stop blocking legislation. Senator mcconnell it is time for you to end your obstruction. And vote. [cheers and applause] and then for the senate to take action talking about the need of senator mcconnell to stop blocking gun safety legislation. [applause] it has now been three weeks since the horrific shooting in el paso and the dayton over the years in community after community after community. The American People and gun owners and non gun owners overwhelmingly believe they want us to do everything we can. But they want to see background checks. They want to see the gun show loophole and the mass provision eliminated. And more and more americans the function of the military style for as many people as possible. [applause] lets listen to what the American People want and not allow the nra to dictate gun policy in this country. [applause] with your obstructionism let us have that debate. [applause] and talking about the need also russia and other countries from interfering in our elections. And to protect the integrity of american elections they want to vote democrat and republican but i hope mostly democrat but to be sure make sure their vote is properly counted and that the election system is not hacked and the heart of american democracy a free and Fair Elections remain intact. [cheers and applause] and if the house passes legislation to update the equipment and then disconnected. So for whatever reason senator mcconnell has blocked legislation from getting a vote in the senate. [booing] once again i say to senator mcconnell, if you want to vote against it. But i cannot understand why you believe that we should do nothing with our elections. Senator mcconnell straw one stop the instructions on dash obstructionism. [applause] so when we talk about our responsibilities of human beings of parents and grandparent grandparents, there is nothing more important than leaving this country and the entire planet healthy and inhabitable for our kids and grandchildren in future families. [applause] some of us unlike the president actually believe Scientific Community not only in america have told us to act boldly to transform the Energy System away from fossil fuels to energy efficiency. [applause] and resume with our country and our planet is irreparable harm from a moral perspective. For our kids and our grandchildren, we cannot or must not allow that to happen. [applause] future generations deserve a planet that is healthy and habitable with a moral responsibility to make sure they have. But if we dont get our act together, there will be more drought more rising sea levels more wildfires more weather extreme disturbances and more human suffering. There are a lot of workers in kentucky. So let me be as clear as i can. Coal miners probably with the members of the United States senate it on that they are not the enemy they work in the fossil fuel industry are not our enemy Climate Change is our enemy. [applause] i understand and why all workers are doing everything they can and for decades coal miners have seen their pensions cut, their Health Care Benefits slashed and their jobs disappear and they have seen their communities destroyed or ceos who dont care about anything except shortterm profits. [applause] the reality is they have abandoned these communities. Unlike mcconnell and unlike trump i will not turn my back on communities in this country. We are going to rebuild Rural America and in the process we will create millions of good paying jobs let me say this today we stand on the coal miners. [cheers and applause] and we ask Mitch Mcconnell to demand these poor workers get paid. So like i said the other day in paradise california which some of you remember that horrific fire that killed 86 people and what i have said and all over the country or if it is caused by human activity and Climate Change causes the devastating harm of our country as well. And i agree with those five things we have a short period of time to transform the Energy System away from fossil fuels to sustainable and efficient energy. [applause] so as we transition away from fossil fuels we will not abandon communities relying on fossil fuels. We will create millions of jobs to modernize the grid and other Sustainable Energies that our country but then highspeed internet and Broadband Services to every country in america on dash every state in the and also to form unions without the corporate ceos. [cheers and applause] and as some of you may know i have sweeping Climate Change legislation but the bottom line is that the future of our country and our planet we have got to act and act now. [cheers and applause] so i say stop your obstructionism and Climate Change legislation so lets have that debate and let save the planet so why does senator mcconnell do what he does cracks and vetoes path possibly every piece of legislation that protects working families while protecting legislation to protect the billionaires. And then to cut Social Security and medicare but the answer is not complicated. And then follow the money. [cheers and applause] over his career senator mcconnell huge amounts of Campaign Contributions from Goldman Sachs and citigroup and j. P. Morgan chase. [booing] and then to receive huge amounts of contributions including Companies Like blue cross blue shield, eli lilly, humana they have a lot of money Campaign Contributions including the nra. [booing] what do these incredibly powerful corporations what is their agenda . They oppose the minimum wage to guarantee health care for all americans as a human right with medicare for all and opposed taking any action with any part of drugs in the country and oppose any legislation to combat Climate Change. And of course the nra opposes any gun safety legislation. That is what they oppose i will take with a support. Tax breaks for the billionaire class and walmart corporation. [booing] and we should be clear that senator mcconnell has delivered for them. A support in regulating wall street. [booing] senator mcconnell has delivered for them. And cutting Social Security and medicare and medicaid. [booing] and here is the irony on one hand everything the American People is what those Campaign Contributors and mcconnell himself oppose, and what the American People oppose is the campaign that they want. Soul senator mcconnell listen to the people of kentucky. [cheers and applause] it isnt complicated to have a struggling workingclass in the country to fight for healthcare and decent paying jobs, education, Clean Environment and to contribute huge amounts of money with a mcconnell call one mcconnell in the Republican Party not helping the working families of this country. That is exactly the opposite of what trump and mcconnell are trying to do. And then based on the color of our skin and based on our religion. [booing] based on our sexual orientation. [booing] and based on our gender. [booing] that is what they want to do. They want to divide us up to allow the wealthy to have governor suppress the vote. But our ideas a little different. [applause] and then to bring working people together. To bring black and white people together. [cheers and applause] Mitch Mcconnell and donald trump and those that control the country it is, and it is going. [cheers and applause] and it is to aim for our kids to go to college and that is why not only those colleges and universities. [cheers and applause] that is an extensive proposition. And that makes the bailouts for the crooks on wall street. And it is that proposition to give those tax breaks to the 1 percent in profitable corporations. And then to allow to enable amazon to not pay a nickel in federal income tax. And then we pay for that to the modern tax speculation. [cheers and applause] and then they try but by one vote to put 32 million americans off the healthcare that they have. [booing] here in kentucky the Affordable Care act is a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of people. So what we say to senator mcconnell we will do what every other major country on earth starting with healthcare for all people. [cheers and applause] and by the way instead of giving tax breaks to your billionaire friends we will finally force them to start paying their fair share. [cheers and applause] we are the wealthiest country in the history of the world. We can have a good standard of living of universal high quality childcare. [cheers and applause] into the Public Education system with the teachers earning a minimum of 50000 per year. [cheers and applause] and with Climate Change we will lead the world to transform the global Energy System to create millions of good paying jobs. [cheers and applause] Mitch Mcconnell works very hard for the unit one dash Citizens United decision. But brothers and sisters let us go Forward Together and let us demand that Mitch Mcconnell has the courage to at least put legislation on the floor of the senate that would help the working families of this country. [cheers and applause] senator mcconnell with the obstructionism and to address the working class of the country. Thank you all very much. [cheers and applause] [chanting] [cheers and applause
