Ron DeSantis is promising a $1,000 bonus for every first responder in his state. “(To) Florida’s first responders: Help is on the way,” DeSantis said during a Wednesday news conference at the Satellite Beach Police Department in Brevard County, pledging checks to every police officer, firefighter, paramedic, and EMT in the Sunshine State. “Some want to defund the police, we’re funding the police and then some,” DeSantis added while praising the first responders who have continued to work during the coronavirus pandemic without the luxury of being able to work from home. The payments will go out once DeSantis signs the recently passed budget into law, which the Republican governor says will happen “relatively soon.”
