ovation, and he did. matt, you just came out with a book about the death of eric garner, and it's called i can't breathe. what lessons can you learn from his death and how police do their jobs. what can people learn there? >> for one thing, he went selling cigarettes that day. i talked to about 25 people who were there that day, and i could do a minute by minute break down of what he was doing that morning. and he wasn't selling cigarettes. so that narrative is actually uncorrect. >> what was he doing? >> he wasn't doing anything. he broke up a fight and police approached him because a cop had seen him on the way to work that day. but this is a classic example of why statistic-based policing doesn't work. it vastly increases the likelihood these incidences are going to happen. and new york is a city that has one of those policing regimes. >> and what's the break down?
