Now that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending all people who live in areas where COVID-19 cases are increasing to wear masks indoors, some South Florida doctors continue to push the importance of getting the vaccine. The recent surge in COVID-19 cases continues to concern doctors who came face to face with patients hospitalized with the coronavirus.Infectious disease specialist Leslie Diaz worries the numbers could rise if the virus continues to spread."I think it's going to be the same if not worse," Diaz said. "I give it maybe a month and a half before we start dropping again."The CDC's revised guidelines come when most of those hospitalized with COVID-19 are among the unvaccinated and hit with the delta variant.Infectious disease specialist Dr. Larry Bush continues to urge everyone to take precautions."People have given up on social distancing and masking for various reasons. They feel they're vaccinated, they're safe," Bush said. "When you're in a public place you don't know who's been vaccinated, you don't know how well the vaccine worked in them. So perhaps we gave up on this social distancing and masking a little bit too soon. Time is going to tell."
