Driver to serve minimum of 18 years for hit-and-run death of two bicyclists

MONROE COUNTY, MI – A driver accused of killing two women on the side of the road and driving away is going to prison.
Ryan Paul Miettinen was sentenced Thursday, April 29, by Monroe County Circuit Judge Michael A. Weipert, to serve at minimum two consecutive 9-40 year terms in prison for deaths of Melissa Williamson and Coleen Huling who were hit by Miettinen on June 26, 2020, according to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office.
Miettinen, 22, of Willis, pleaded no contest in February to two felony counts of failure to stop at the scene of a crash when at fault resulting in the deaths and entered a sentencing agreement calling for a minimum sentence of nine years on each count.
