STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The Anti-Corruption Youth-Power, Assam (ACYPA) has questioned as to why the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) has been extended for another six-month term in Assam at a time when most of the insurgent groups have laid down arms and the State government is claiming that the situation in the State is peaceful.
Addressing the media here on Saturday, ACYPA president Dharmakanta Gogoi said, "The State government had been in deep slumber over the last four years. It woke up all of a sudden and started the process of appointments in various departments, but in most of the cases their moves remain in advertisements with the poll code of conduct enforced in the State. This government is led by a party that promised to give jobs to two lakh candidates per year. However, it has failed to provide jobs to even 50,000 youths in five years, let alone ten lakh as promised. The government has failed utterly in providing jobs to jobless people.
